The South Pasadena Champions Awards, a celebration of community service and leadership, returns to the South Pasadena Center for its fourth year on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 5:00 pm. The annual event is a tribute to dedicated residents and an opportunity to introduce the community to the South Pasadena Senior Center and its fundraising arm, the Senior Citizens’ Foundation of South Pasadena, Inc. This year we are proud to honor long-time community members and dedicated volunteers Ellen Torres and Sam Hernandez.

Ellen Torres has spent more than 35 years championing youth and education through her tireless work with the PTA at the local, district, and state levels. She has also served as a leader in organizations including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, AYOS, National Charity League, Friends of the South Pasadena Library, and the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses.

Sam Hernandez, a longtime resident and tireless community advocate, has helped shape and support cherished South Pasadena traditions including Little League, the Festival of Balloons, and the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. His leadership has extended to civic life as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Public Works Commission.
